If
you want to dress up any backyard area than a birdbath is something
that you may want to consider. They allow for a place where the birds
can cool themselves off on those hot afternoons by taking a fast dip and
taking a drink in the process. The local birds will quickly find the
birdbath as will many other birds that may be just passing through the
area. This space can become a focal point to your outdoor living area
where you can enjoy the behavior of the birds.
The selection of bird baths is quite large. There are hanging type
bird baths, pedestal varieties and just basin types. The hanging ones
come in plastic resin and metal and go well whether they are attached to
a beam on the deck, some type of support stand in the yard or a low
hanging tree branch. The pedestal varieties are available in metal and
plastic resin and even come fashioned in concrete, which are usually
left in place once an area is selected for them. The basin type consist
of just the basin or bowl, that can be placed on the ground or on a deck
or gazebo railing. The birds will find it and make use of it wherever
you place it and you will be rewarded with endless hours of
entertainment.
Still another variety of the product is the reservoir bird bath.
These also are available for pedestal or hanging types. An attractive
decorator reservoir with birds or flowers is positioned in the middle of
the basin. As the water is depleted, the reservoir continually supplies
water to it to keep it at a constant level.
The basins or bowls of the baths are available in a wide selection of
finishes from terracotta to cobblestone to antique copper and bronze.
The accent pieces add a nice complement to the bird bath, whether they
be a flower or bird figure placed in the center of the basin or the
three chains supporting the hanging types.
Whatever selection of bird bath you finally decide upon, be sure to
keep it clean and filled for the birds, lightly scrubbing and rinsing it
out every couple of days or more frequently should it be become soiled.
All you need is a small scrub brush or toothbrush and a bucket of clean
water to rinse and refill the bath. Don't use chemical cleaners or
soaps as the birds are particularly sensitive to these. Just doing these
simple things should allow you to enjoy the antics of the birds in your
yard.
