The Different Sink Types And Their Pros And Cons

If you think that every other kitchen sink is the same, you are very wrong. Different materials and types of sinks have their own advantages and disadvantages.

There are several types of sinks. They have advantages. However, there are also disadvantages that are present. The most common type of sink is the one made from stainless steel. These are further categorized based on the gauges. But it is more important to note that the most notable thing about sinks made from stainless steel is the fact that it can be quite easy to clean. You will only need water and soap. You can then wipe the area a little to remove stains that are sticking to the sink. But, aside from that, the cleaning process and the maintenance are uncomplicated.

These sinks also come in different sizes and shapes. When you are pressed for space or design, there will be a lot to choose from. However, there are a few setbacks with this type of sink. The first one is that the thin varieties can dent easily. They may also be scratched and mark readily. For thicker types, the price will be the issue.

There are also those made from enamel steel. These are generally easy to maintain. Plus, they come in a variety of colors. So, if you are particular about your furniture being color-coordinated, you can choose these. In addition, enamel steel sinks are affordable. However, the problem begins when there are chipped parts. This will ruin your sink and it will look old and very much used. Also, it can be very noisy and will not be ideal for heavy use.

Clay can also be another material that your sink can be made from. Clay is known for its durability. Your sink can last a long time. Cleaning will be light work. Then, the material can have a smooth surface making it good for your design. For the cons, this type of sink will not give you a lot of choices for color. It will also be problem if there are parts that will chip away just like in enamel steel sinks.

If you want to have a sink that is smooth to touch and require only light maintenance, soapstone can be the best material for you. But, of course, there are disadvantages. For one, the material changes its color with time. It will look darker. The price can also be quite high. Lastly, the material can scratch pretty easily when the surface is scraped.

There are also stone sinks. This type allows for a wider variety of design. Its disadvantage ranges from the difficulty of cleaning it up to the fact that it can be expensive. Furthermore, just like with soapstone, the surface can scratch quite easily. And so, this might not be ideal for heavy, everyday use.

Then, there are metal sinks which are usually made from brass, copper, or German silver. They can come in a variety of customizable designs. Therefore, choosing the most appropriate design for your usage is convenient. The amount of work required to maintain it can also be a disadvantage.
